Part of the Journey

Madwa’s project in the south of Swaziland is tucked away in a remote valley near the town of Manzini. To reach it, you need to navigate an uneven dirt road, and for communities living in this area, the only way in and out each day is the local bus service. The bus carries everything from people to livestock, and until recently Madwa relied on this bus service to help its weavers to transport their finished products to a collection point: these pieces were loaded onto the bus’s roof and transported down the valley to the tarred road where Madwa’s local co-ordinator would be waiting to collect them. Buses like this are a lifeline for communities living in remote locations and for Madwa this bus very directly enabled its weavers to earn a living.
